Activities for Family Outdoor In Cyprus

With wonderful forest parks, extraordinary bird-watching, fantastic picnic and camping sites and exciting theme and water parks, Cyprus offers range of choices for families to enjoy their holidays with great outdoors activities.

Water & Theme Parks

Take the opportunity for the magical journey through the most famous lakes, oceans and rivers of the world at the Ocean Aquarium in Protaras and try to discover the 400 different types of marine life, including sharks and eels and spot the astonishing colors of corals that lie hidden in the deep waters.  Ocean Aquarium opens every day from 10 o’clock in the morning and stays open until late afternoon.

Located in the village of Avgorou, the Ostrich Park and the lovely petting zoo within ‘The Flying Ostrich Park’ is one of the favorite activities of the families that visit Cyprus for holidays.
In Mazotos village there is the wonderful ‘Camel Park’, where children’s as well as adults will be able to learn all about camels as well as the family can spend some time together feeding and riding the camels. Within the park, a small museum exists, a small souvenir shop from where you can take mementoes of your visit and great games for the children. Furthermore, there is also a restaurant from where you can choose a variety of Cypriot plates. The Camel Park opens every day from 8:00 until 18:00 all year round.
With 25 minutes drive away from Cyprus capital Nicosia, the ‘Ostrich Wonderland Theme Park’ located in Agios Ioannis Maloundas, is one of the biggest ostrich park-farms in Europe. Spend a day with your family at the park and meet the habits of these gigantic birds. Ostrich Wonderland Theme Park opening hours are the following: 09:00 – 19:00 during the months May to October; and 09:00 – 17:00 November to April. The park remains closed on Christmas Day, New Year Day and Easter Sunday.

A fantastic place for visit is the ‘Cyprus Donkey Sanctuary’, located 36km away from Limassol in Trodos hills. Cyprus Donkey Sanctuary hosts more than 130 donkeys that are available to ride, dozens of enclosed featuring stables, exercise yards and stores. The opening hours of this unique park are Monday to Saturday 10:00 to 16:00.
An astonishing place to visit is the ‘Paphos Bird and Animal Park’ which is a home to an range of animals and birds including parrots, ostriches, eagles, iguanas, gazelles, giraffes and many other animals. There is also a children’s farm, where the kids can meet with chickens, goats, pigs, bunnies and rabbits. The park situates at Agios Georgios Pegias and is open daily from 9:00 – 17:00 October to March and 9:00 – 20:00 April to September.

Water World Waterpark in Agia Napa, is an impressive as well as interesting theme water park for all the family. Designed according to Greek mythology, with ancient statues and columns is the biggest theme water park in Europe. Its water games, having unique names based again on the Greek mythology such as the Fall of Icarus, Aeolos Whirlpool, Poseidon’s Wave Pool, Aphrodite’s Bat, the Quest of Heracles and many others. The Waterpark also provides a variety of catering facilities, and it is opening from April until mid-November between 10:00 – 18:00 every day.
Fasouri Watermania Waterpark is situated in Limassol. It is very interesting and remarkable waterpark designed and dressed up in a Polynesian tropical theme gives the impression of an exotic location. Fasouri Waterpark has a numerous water games and other facilities, including 30 different types of slides, football field, volley courts, restaurants and snack bars. Fasouri Watermania Waterpark is open daily from May to October 10:00 -18:00.

Forest Parks

The National Forest Park of Trodos, has more than 800 plant species and 80 different types of birds. Within this National Park tourists and locals can find many camping sites and picnic sites where the nature trails enclosed within an 93sq km area is the an ideal place to have an adventurous and exploratory day with family or friends. The natural black pine trees characterize this area, which have been specialist designated as a protected area in particular with regards to birds and their wild life.

Athalassa National Forest Park, Cavo Gkreko, Rizoelia National Forest Park and Tripilos, Paedagogical Academy National Forest Park are some of the other outstanding and wonderful forest parks in Cyprus that are provided with a variety of attractions and opportunities for cycling, climbing and picnicking and many others.
